MindConnex Learning launches fourth play in Shakespeare In Bits series - Hamlet

January 31st, 2012 - Dublin, Ireland - MindConnex Learning, an award-winning global provider of digital learning solutions for the educational sector, has launched Hamlet, the fourth title in its popular flagship Shakespeare In Bits series.

Shakespeare In Bits: Hamlet follows the successful launch of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (September 2011), Macbeth (December 2010) andalt Romeo & Juliet (May 2010), and is available online (through a school subscription), on iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, PC and Mac.

“We are thrilled to be launching our fourth title in the Shakespeare In Bits series, especially Hamlet - one of the longest and most widely studied of Shakespeare’s plays,” says Michael Cordner, CEO of MindConnex Learning.

Shakespeare In Bits is an innovative, multimedia way for educators and students to engage with the works of the famous Bard, enabling them to read, digest, understand and appreciate the text in bite-sized ‘mini-lessons’ or bits.

Each Shakespeare In Bits play includes:

  • The original unabridged texts
  • A fully animated and voiced performance, so your students can easily follow the action
  • Handy in-line translations that show the modern meaning of archaic words at a click
  • Notes and analyses to ensure your students gain a complete understanding of the text
  • Full character biographies, relationship maps, and interactive cast browser.

“Despite being an early-stage company, we have already gained significant traction, having signed up 90 schools to Shakespeare In Bits over the last three months. Our aim is to make Shakespeare a little more accessible to a generation of students who are comfortable learning in a digital medium. Shakespeare In Bits allows students to engage with a great work of literature and understand the nuances and interactions that many struggle to decipher from flat text on a page. Quite simply, we’re using contemporary technology to bring Shakespeare’s greatest plays to life in the classroom," explains Cordner.

Shakespeare In Bits Live!, the online version of the popular app series, presents a more compelling proposition for schools, providing teachers with easy access to the plays for viewing on any school computer, including with projector/interactive whiteboard. Students can also access the plays online, through the same subscription, from any location, at any time, ensuring that they can study and keep up in their own time, as they progress through the play. Easy to use, the Shakespeare In Bits Live! solution requires no technical setup or installation – all that’s needed is a browser and internet access. Shakespeare In Bits also caters to schools embarking on a 1-to1 program with its plays being also available on iPad, iPhone, PC and Mac.

MindConnex Learning, which has just been awarded a Readers’ Choice Award from US publication, eSchool Media, has already commenced work on its fifth instalment in the Shakespeare In Bits series. As Cordner explains, “We are busily trying to build our presence in the worldwide educational market, while also ramping up production of the rest of the plays in the Shakespeare In Bits series. We have just started work on Julius Caesar, which we hope to launch within a few months”.
